Mathematics Intent of Statement

The Core Christian values at North Ferriby Church of England Primary School are Friendship, Forgiveness, Trust, Service and Creation. These values underpin our curriculum and enrich all aspects of our pupils’ education. Our curriculum prepares children for the future by developing Heathy and Safe, Trusting, Enterprising and Creative members of the local community. Embedded within our teaching and learning are opportunities for the pupils to understand the meaning and significance of the Christian faith.

At North Ferriby CE Primary School, we strive to enable pupils to become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics. We use the White Rose Maths programme of study as a basis for our teaching and learning. This scheme ensures varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time, so that pupils develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately. We endeavour to develop mathematical reasoning by following lines of enquiry. To this end, we explore mathematical relationships using mathematical language.  We aim for pupils to be able to solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems with increasing sophistication. This includes breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps and persevering in seeking solutions.
