The Governing Body

The Governing Body comprises representatives of a number of stakeholder interests. As a Church of England Voluntary Controlled School, we have foundation governors appointed by the York Diocesan Board of Education, following consultation with the Parochial Church Council of North Ferriby.

Our School has a Governing Body of 15 consisting of:

  • 3 Foundation governors (one of whom is the Principal Officiating Minister of the Parish)
  • 1 Headteacher
  • 1 Staff governor
  • 1 Local Authority governor
  • 4 Parent governors
  • 5 Coopted governors

In addition to this we have 1 Associate member.

The governing body meets twice a term to:

  • set the aims and objectives for the school
  • set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives
  • monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards  achievement of its aims and objectives
  • be a source of support and challenge to the headteacher (a critical friend)
  • Some of the governing body’s work is delegated to one of three committees:

Personnel:

  • monitors and evaluates policies for all staffing and welfare issues e.g. recruitment, pay, teacher appraisal and staff well being

Finance & General Purposes:

  • sets and monitors the budget, monitors and evaluates relevant policies, ensures compliance with Health & Safety procedures and oversees the upkeep of the building and grounds

Curriculum:

  • ensures that the school offers all children the National Curriculum and monitors and evaluates curriculum policies

Governors' Association throughout Hull and East Riding - GAtHER

GAtHER is a small independent group of experienced governors drawn from governing bodies across the City of Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

All School Governing Bodies are automatically members of the Association, unless they opt out.  Through the Association, our governors are able to keep up to date with information, and can access training and events provided by GAtHER.
