Community Use

As well as providing primary education for almost all the young children of the village, the school is pleased to be able to play an important role in the wider life of the community through the use of its premises and facilities and via the participation of the children and staff in many aspects of community life.

The school grounds host the Kids’ Club Cabin, (a before and after school child care club) with its own building, and the Guides and Brownies Hut. The field is used regularly outside school hours for football practice and matches by Hull City Football in the Community and Ferriby United’s children’s teams and by the Youth Club on summer evenings. Also the field and buildings are used for PTA events such as the summer barbecue Village Twinning events.

The Ferriby Ladies Choir meets at the school each Wednesday evening during term time.

As a Church of England School North Ferriby maintains close links with All Saints’ Church and also with the village Methodist Church. The vicar and minister regularly lead assemblies in school through the year.

The children attend services at All Saints’ to mark important dates in the year such as the Christingle Service and the Leavers’ Service.

Kids Club Cabin – our of school and holiday childcare

Do you need childcare or are you looking for some entertainment in the school holidays?

We are an OFSTED-registered out-of-school club based in the grounds of North Ferriby CE Primary School. We are open every weekday except Bank Holidays from 7.45am to 6pm. During term time, we escort the children to and from North Ferriby School as needed and we are open all day during the holidays. We are open to any child who attends North Ferriby School during term time, and in the holidays any child aged between 4 and 11 years is welcome.

Any children arriving at the Club before 8.30am can tuck into a round of toast with butter or jam, and a drink, at no extra charge.  This is available during term time and holiday time.  A snack tea is provided during the afternoon session at around 4.00pm.  A packed lunch is required for children attending holiday sessions.

We offer a variety of activities including painting, clay modelling, disco dancing competitions and gardening. In the holidays we arrange special events and have recently had visits from the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and safety talks from the Police.

The Club is a not for profit organization but we do charge fees to cover our running costs.

Currently the fees are (they are subject to change):

  • before school session £4.50;
  • after school session £7.00;
  • holiday am session £8.50;
  • holiday pm session £8.50; and

History of the School

In 1826, the North Ferriby National School Foundation was set up by the local Parish Church.  About two years later, a school was opened at what is now 32 Station Road.
After 40 years, the school moved to a new building next door (now numbers 28 and 30).

In 1878, another new school building was opened in Church Road, being given by Mrs Anne Turner in memory of her late husband, Charles Turner. Next door was the Headmaster's house.

This is a picture of the original school bell that has been restored and mounted on the wall in the school entrance hall.

The school bell from the 1878 building hangs in the current school entrance hall.

Under the 1902 Education Act, the running of the school was taken over by the Local Education Authority but it is a Voluntary Controlled School as the church owns the land to the west of Church Road and provides three governors to support the strategic management of the school.

From 1954, the school gradually moved into new buildings further up Church Road, beginning with the older children. In July 1990, the Turner Memorial School building was finally closed and has since then been converted into two houses.

In 1963 the older part of the Key Stage One building was opened.

Since the year 2000, the school has benefited from three new classrooms and improvements including a new library, remodelled entrances, Early Years play area, replacement fencing and gateways and parent shelters.
