Local Authority Assessment Each year an adviser from the Local Authority’s School Improvement Service undertakes a Charter Visit to the school to assess how well it is performing. As a result of the last visit the school was judged to be successful and effective.
School Travel Plan The school has been successful in obtaining £5195 to encourage more children to walk or scooter to school and make the journey safer. We were chosen to participate in a Safer Routes to School Project in 2004. The first step was look at what is happening now through questionnaires sent to parents, staff and pupils. The questionnaires were analysed by East Riding and the results helped us decide what measures to include in Safer Routes Travel Plan. These were:
The Travel Plan was put together by a working party which consisted of pupils, parents, staff, governors and Parish Councillors. It was approved by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the DfES and the school now provides scooter storage and has two “waiting shelters” for parents and carers. The local council has installed a 30 mph warning sign on the main road approach to the school from the east.
