The School Site

The school site is located on both sides of Church Road in North Ferriby, with buildings on each side. The Key Stage 1 Building, for children aged 4 to 7 years, is to the east of Church Road, and the Key Stage 2 children, aged 8 to 11 years, are based in the building to the west of Church Road. Both sites have extensive play areas including playgrounds and playing fields.

Our Principles

North Ferriby School believes that recognition of the equal worth of each child is central to the development of the whole curriculum and therefore each child is entitled to:

  • Equality of access to, and experience of, the curriculum in order to achieve personal potential;

  • A broad, balanced curriculum which enables spiritual, cultural, intellectual, aesthetic, social and physical development for life’s opportunities, responsibilities and experiences;

  • A curriculum which is informed by assessment and differentiated in order to ensure continuity and progression through the learning process;

  • Active participation in their own learning and, through the formative process, involvement in assessment and target setting.

Church - School Links

Our school is a Voluntary Controlled Church of England school with history going back to the 18th Century. Today the Church foundation is highly valued by the community and seen as extremely significant to All Saints church’s role and mission in North Ferriby.

The Statutory Inspection of Anglican Schools (SIAS) report from 2006 recognised that “Church and school have a good and mutually supportive relationship.” This connection is seen in the involvement of many adult church members in the school’s life – as volunteers, governors & staff. There are also regular shared events and projects such as the Christmas shoebox appeal and launch service, the annual Education Sunday and Leavers’ services and the much loved Christmas Christingle.

The Vicar is involved in regular assemblies, supporting the RE curriculum and has a pastoral role with staff & children. After school & lunchtime Christian groups (All Stars and Supa Stars) are run weekly by church volunteers and staff.

Governors have responded to the SIAS inspectors’ challenge in 2006 “to monitor and evaluate everything that underpins the Christian foundation of the school”, with a positive review of our Christian foundation & ethos. The All Saints’ North Ferriby church family is strongly committed to the school and see the partnership of church and school as key to the development of community cohesion and the promotion of Christian values in the village. The foundation governors and others are very keen to build upon the legacy of the current head teacher’s clear Christian commitment.

The Governing Body has three Foundation Governors nominated by the Parochial Church Council of All Saints Church.

School Accessibility Plan

The school is very accessible for people with disabilities

At North Ferriby CE Primary School every child matters. The teaching and learning, achievements, attitudes and well being of each child is important. So the school has a range of facilities to make access easier for people with disabilities. These include ramps and handrails and a large accessible door into each building. There is also a disabled toilet and shower in both buildings and stickers on all the glass doors in the Key Stage 1 building to increase visibility.

All the classrooms are carpeted to reduce background noise. Specialist resources to assist pupils with special needs are obtained from the appropriate agencies.

The school has also prepared a plan to increase accessibility over the next few years which includes:

  • improving access to the disabled facilities in the Key Stage 2 building

  • providing shade in the Key Stage 1 play area

  • providing a new safer pathway from Church Road to the Key Stage 1 playground

Special Educational Needs

The Special Educational Needs provision in the school is reviewed annually.

The school has a comprehensive Special Educational Needs (SEN) Policy which was revised in 2003. The policy aims are:

  • To identify pupils who have Special Educational Needs (SEN) as early as possible.

  • To inform, involve and support parents from the earliest stage of identification of their child's Special Educational Needs.

  • To provide appropriate support for the child to allow access to a broad and balanced curriculum.

If a child has already been identified as having Special Educational Needs before entering school, then the school will try to ensure that the required level of support is in place from the start, working closely with parents and pre-school providers to build on a child's previous experience.

Children who are identified as having Special Educational Needs whilst in school will be given support, which will be increased as required. All children on the SEN register have Individual Education Plans (IEPs) prepared for them, and these are reviewed and updated regularly sometimes with the help of outside agencies. Parents are encouraged to be involved in their children's learning and in reviewing progress.

The SEN Governor monitors the implementation of the SEN Policy regularly. A copy of the SEN Policy outlining the graduated response provided for children can be obtained from the school on request.
